Birding in Rushaga Sector Bwindi Impenetrable forest national park

Rushaga Sector is another exciting birding spot in Bwindi Impenetrable forest national park. Birdwatching in Rushaga can be extended to Lake Mutanda and Nkuringo sector to see several bird species including African green broadbill, Grey cuckoo shrike, banded woodpecker, Kivu ground, African wood owl, Green tinker bird, Bar-tailed trogon, Mountain yellow warbler among others.

Rushaga region is located in the southern part of Bwindi the impenetrable National park and a home to the endangered mountain gorillas. Like we said before, Rushaga region is destined in the southern Bwindi Impenetrable National Park border, a few kilometers from the Democratic Republic of Congo border, at the Edge of the Albertine Rift. It is about 34 km which is approximately 1½ hours’ drive from Kisoro Town (Kisoro airport) and about 83 km (2½ hour drive) from Kable Town at coordinates 1°07’09.4″S 29°42’36.7″E.

Months like June and July are dry and receives less rains while March to mid-May are wet seasons and receives much rainfall which may interfere with your birdwatching experience. The main nesting season happens in May and June, with food being in plenty from late May through September. Migratory birds in Rushaga sector are present from November to April.
