Our 4 days Birding Safari to Murchison Falls National Park will have us do bird watching and see some wildlife as well. This park is one of the most famous birding spots in Uganda and Africa. We shall do a boat cruise on the Nile and a nature walk. We shall also do an optional night game drive. We have over 450 species of birds recorded in this park. It’s the largest conservation area in Uganda.. the most common bird here are; marabou storks, ground horn bills, secretary birds, black-bellied bustards, Open-billed storks, Widow birds, wheatears, bishops , red-throated bee- eater, woodland king fisher, francolins, hornbills, the black bee- eater, swallow tailed bee-eater, , grey heron, Hamerkop, doves, Mouse birds, shrikes, flycatchers, cuckoos, and woodpeckers,.

4 Days Birding Murchison Falls National Park Highlights

  • Day one: birding from kampala masindi via mabamba bay – shoebill stork
  • Day two: birding to budongo- royal mile and transfer to northern Murchison
  • Day three: birding safari to northern murchison falls
  • Day four: birding to kampala

Day One: Birding From Kampala Masindi Via Mabamba Bay – Shoebill Stork

On this day we shall have early morning breakfast and head to Mabamba Bay wetland to look out for the special Shoebill stock. There will be many other species to look out for, such as; the Papyrus Gonolek, White Shouldered Tit, the Allen’s and Purple Gallinule, Grey herons, Pallid Harrier and Blue Swallow, Red Cap, Western Banded Snake Eagle, White Winged Warbler and Weyns Weaver, Jacanas, Rufous Bellied Heron, Purple and Goliath Heron.
We shall transfer to Masindi through Luweero for an overnight stay. Masindi Hotel or New Court View Hotel.

Day Two: Birding Budongo- Royal Mile And Transfer To Northern Muchison

We shall head to the Budongo area which is a section of Murchison Falls National Park. Our emphasis will be on this forest’s canopy to specifically get more chances of seeing Skulking birds and others birds like; the Nahan’s Francolin, White-thighed Hornbill, Ituri Batis, Lemon Bellied Crombec, Tit Hylia, Uganda Woodland Warbler, Forest Robin, Yellow Billed, Grey Throated, Hairy Breasted and Yellow Spotted Barbet, Great Blue and Black Billed Turaco, Little Grey and Little Greeenbul, Yellow-browed Camaroptera, Forest Flycatcher, Chestnut-capped Flycatcher, graceful Cassin’s and Sabine’s Spinetail, Blue-throated Roller, Slender Billed, White Throated,  Dusy Long Tailed Cuckoo, Spotted, Plain, Red Tailed Bristlebill and Black-capped Apalis. Stay at Hornbill Safari Lodge or Pakuba Safari Lodge. 

Day Three: Birding Northern Murchison Falls

We shall do a morning game drive while looking out for other wildlife like Lions, Giraffes, elephants and Leopards. We shall do an afternoon boat cruise on the nile while birding and this day is most likely to produce birds like; the Red-throated and Northern Carmine Bee-eater mammals such as Rothschild’s Giraffe, Cape Buffalo, Elephant, Waterbuck, the Saddle-billed, Yellow Billed and African Open Billed Stork, Northern Crombec, Namaqua,  Heuglin’s Francolins, Black Billed Barbet, Northern and Red Faced Barbet, Swallow-tailed, Little Bee-eaters,  Hauglins Francolin, Senegal Thick-knee, Rock Pratincole, Giant, Woodland, Grey Headed, Malchite, Pygmy and striped Kingfishers, the giant Abyssinian Ground Hornbills, Black Winged and Northern Red Bishops, Chestnut Crowned and the White Browed Sparrow Weaver, Abyssinian Rollers, African Morning, Ring Necked and Red Eyed dove. We shall have an optional game drive on this day to look out for nocturnal birds and other wildlife. Stay at Hornbill Safari Lodge or Pakuba Safari Lodge. 

Day Four: Birding To Kampala

Today we shall checkout of Murchison falls National Park, as we head out, we shall visit the top of the falls to see the source of the water as it goes through narrow gorge to form the two falls. We shall bird on our way back to Kampala and then we have an option of visiting the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary to track the endangered White Rhinos before drop off to either Kampala or Entebbe to end your 4 Days birding Murchison falls National park with lots of memories.
