Day 1: Pick up – Kigali city tour – Transfer to Congo

Meet our company representative from either Kigali airport or hotel for briefing, and later start your safari with a Kigali city tour; visit the Gisozi genocide memorial site where you will learn very touching stories about the 1994 Rwanda genocide and how the country transformed to a new Rwanda. You will watch short videos and presentations from the local people who lived during this period. After, continue with your city tour to visit main market, artisan shops and the former presidential palace for more interesting stories. Have lunch and start your journey to DR Congo border via Gisenyi. Upon reaching the border, head to the immigration office for clearance and later our guide will handover you to the team from Virunga national park for a transfer to your booked hotel through Goma city in Congo.

Day 2: Gorilla trekking in Congo – Visiting the Senkwekwe Centre

Have an early morning breakfast and head to the park headquarters for briefing about the dos and don’ts of Virunga gorilla trekking tour and gorilla family allocations. Later start your trail into the deep jungles of the forest with the help of a professional ranger in search for mountain gorillas in their natural habitat. Trackers are always recommended to be fit as the activity takes 2-6hrs of tracking depending on the movement of the gorillas. Upon meeting the gentle primates of the forest, you will be allowed to spend one hour with them; observe how the live with the group members, play and swing in the forest. Later return to the starting point and drive back to the lodge for lunch, relax and later go for a community tour and also visit Senkwekwe gorilla orphanage in Mikeno sector.

Day 3: Mount Nyiragongo Hiking

Wake up very early morning for breakfast from your lodge and wait to be picked by the team from Virunga national park. You will be driven to Kibatsi village which is the starting point for mount Nyiragongo hike. Hiking Nyiragongo volcano takes between 4 to 6 hours depending on the overall physical fitness of the climbers in the group. Please note that on visitor is left behind until you get to the summit of the mountain. Upon reaching the top of the volcano, you will enjoy spectacular views of other Virunga Volcanoes, Goma town, the Virunga forest, Lake Kivu, the Rwenzori mountains in Uganda, National Parks in Rwanda/Uganda and Kahuzi Biega National Park. After exploring the breathtaking sceneries of the surrounding communities, go for another exciting experience of viewing the boiling lava lake. The best time to view this lava lake is during night hours. After, dinner will be prepared and served by the local chef and porters. Dinner and overnight at volcano summit cabins.

Day 4: Descend the Volcano – Transfer to Kigali

Wake you and descent to the base of the volcano at 8:00am; reaching Goma before mid-day and proceed to the border crossing point to meet your driver guide. The migration office in Rwanda will ask you to pay for another visa to re-enter Rwanda at a cost of USD $30. Your drive back to Rwanda will be interesting as you will have several stop-overs for sightseeing and photography. taking photos as you drive back to Kigali. Later your driver will drop you at the airport or your hotel in Kigali to end your 4 Days Congo gorilla tour and Nyiragongo hiking package.
