5 Days Mount Elgon Climbing Safari

5 Days Mount Elgon climbing safari takes you to eastern Uganda for another exciting adventurous hike on one of the oldest volcanic mountains formed about 24 million years back. Initially, Mount Elgon was taller than Kilimanjaro however it reduced to 4,321 at its Wagagai Peak due to denudational forces. Besides traversing through one of the widest calderas in the whole world you will also explore the beautiful heath, bamboo, moorland, and the hot springs among others.

5 Days Mount Elgon climbing safari highlights

• Day 1: Pick up – Transfer to Mount Elgon National park.
• Day 2: Hike from Kapkwata – Piswa Camp – 2,850metres
• Day 3: Hike to Hunters Cave Camp
• Day 4: Wagagai Peak – Mude Cave Camp
• Day 5: Mude Cave – Budadiri – Kampala

Day 1: Pick up – Transfer to Mount Elgon National park.

Meet and greet our company representative and your driver guide upon arrival at Entebbe international airport or from your hotel in Entebbe or Kampala for a quick briefing and later start your journey to Eastern Uganda through Jinja with a visit to the source of the Nile, and Mbale city at the foothills of Mountain Elgon arriving in late afternoon. Check in your booked lodge and go for nature walk to explore the sipi falls. Overnight at Sipi River Lodge.

Day 2: Hike from Kapkwata – Piswa Camp – 2,850metres

Have breakfast, head to Kapkwata which is a starting point and lies at 2,190 meters above sea level. The Kapkwata trail is a scenic route that takes climbers through heath, bamboo, moorland. You will reach Piswa Camp in the afternoon.  Dinner and camping at Piswa Hut Campsite.

Day 3: Hike to Hunters Cave Camp

Today you will hike to the hunters cave camp and the trail takes you through the beautiful columns of the rare plat species such as the Giant Lobelia and several wild everlasting flowers. You will also visit the hot springs and Saum George, before returning on the rim of the Caldera at the hunter’s cave- 3,850 meters. Dinner and overnight at Hunters Cave Camp.

Day 4: Wagagai Peak – Mude Cave Camp

Have breakfast, ascend to the top of the caldera, the Wagagai peak at 4,321metres high. Upon reaching the summit, take as many photos as possible before descending to Mude Cave through the Jackson summit (4200metres).   Dinner and camping at Mude Cave Camp.

Day 5: Mude Cave – Budadiri – Kampala

Have breakfast and descend to Budadiri through the sasa trail before driving to Mbale for hot Lunch. After your meal, start your journey back to either kampala or Entebbe international airport to end your 5 Days Mount Elgon climbing safari.
