Birding safaris in Kenya are mainly done in the open savanna grasslands of Masai Mara and Amboseli national parks; you are likely to spot several birds including the African gray hornbill, lilac-breasted curler, Kori bustard, Usambiro barbet, Secretary bird, Sooty chat, Rufous-bellied heron and the wonderful starling. Whereas birds like Bogoria and Flamingoes can be seen in several Kenya Rift Valley lakes of Lake Nakuru, lake Naivasha and Baringo.
Birds can extend their birding safaris to the coastal areas of Kenya in search for bird species like Amani sunbird, Clarke weaver, Parasitic jaegers, anhinga, the grey crested helmet –shrike Sharpe’s longclaw, crab-plover, Hinde’s babbler, and the Aberdare cisticola. Bird watching in Kenya is good year-round, however the best time for birding is from September to April when the country hosts several migratory birds from Europe and northern Africa. And at this time, a number of resident species are nesting and in breeding plumage. Though if you are interested in combing bird watching and wildlife viewing safaris in Kenya, the dry season is always better.
Climate in Kenya is quite variable and you will have to prepare for all seasons. The higher altitude savanna and forest sites like Nairobi National park, Mount Kenya, and the Aberdare are cool; usually 10°-20°C, with rain highly likely at some stage. In the rift valley at Naivasha, Nakuru and Baringo it is a little hotter and drier about 11°-27°C, and at the Kenyan coast on the extension it is hot and humid with 22°-38°C.
